EMAS (European Eco - Management and Audit Scheme) EMAS was established to improve the quality of environmental management throughout European industry, to help companies gain a competitive advantage from these improvements and to communicate their progress to the general public. The scheme is strongly supported by the UK government. To register under EMAS a company must have a clearly defined strategy for environmental management complete with objectives and targets for continual improvement, and must publish extensive details of its environmental performance.
