The Community Liaison Officer visits Nursery, Primary, Middle and High schools on the Island to give a presentation on waste management (this includes recycling, reusing, composting and landfill). These presentations vary in length and content depending upon the age range.A far better insight into waste issues is gained if pupils can visit Island Waste Services sites. These include the Composting plant, the Landfill site and the Resource Recovery Facility (only suitable for youngsters over the age of 10). The Composting plant contains an informative display giving details of all the services and operations undertaken by the Company. Display We have a small amount of display material, CD's and videos containing information on recycling that may help to supplement class activities. You may also wish to download the cartoon characters used by Island Waste services to promote recycling. PowerPoint Presentation
An Island Waste Services PowerPoint Presentation is available. This presentation is based on the Island Waste Services large and informative display, which can currently be seen at the Visitors Centre located at the main Civic Amenity site in Briddlesford Road.
The presentation is suitable for use with older Middle school pupils, GCSE and 'A' level students as well as community groups. It provides a summary of Waste Management activities on the Isle of Wight, together with some useful facts and figures. It would be preferable if this presentation were supplemented by a visit to Island Waste Services sites and a more detailed presentation by a Community Liaison Officer. If you would like to book a talk or visit or wish to find out a little more detail on these, you may either phone to discuss with the Community Liaison Officer (tel 821234) or fill in your details on the Contact Us page. ^ Back to top |
