10 collection rounds cover the Island. This comprises 8 split bodied refuse collection vehicles, one smaller vehicle for the rural areas (together with a small rural recycling vehicle) and a vehicle servicing domestic wheeled bins and schools.

The split-bodied vehicles are designed to enable a weekly collection of general refuse and organic kitchen waste.

All collected waste is taken to the Resource Recovery Facility in Forest Road. The organic waste and garden waste collected by the vehicles is taken to the composting plant.

Island Waste Services also operate a kerbside recycling service.

Garden waste
The collection of garden waste is not specified within the Integrated Waste Management contract and it is therefore an extra collection for which a charge is made. If you wish to have your garden waste collected by the domestic collection round you must purchase Garden Waste bags from Island Waste Services.
Please phone the Forest Road office to order bags:
Freephone 0800 328 3851
Please note that the minimum order is 5 bags.
Garden waste bags can also be purchased at a number of locations on the Island. Please phone us for details.

Once the garden waste bags are full they may be left out for collection alongside your general household waste sacks. Please note bags must not contain rubble or excessive amounts of soil.

Garden Waste can also be disposed of at one of the Island's three Civic Amenity Sites.

You may wish to consider Home Composting as an alternative.

Island Waste Services sell Home Composters at their Forest Road site (weekdays only between 9am and 4pm). Please phone for details.
